Most homeowners know they want a new deck, but figuring out the details is where it gets overwhelming. What material? What railing style? How do the stairs connect to the existing patio? This job is a good example of how all those decisions can come together cleanly when the right team is running the build.
We went with rich brown composite decking paired against crisp white railing posts and rails. The black metal balusters in between add a modern edge without overdoing it. It's a simple color combination, but it works well - especially against the light yellow siding on this house. The white lattice skirting below the deck ties the whole thing together and keeps the underside looking neat.
One thing worth pointing out is how the stairs were handled. The main stair run connects directly down to an existing paver patio - so the transition from deck level to ground level feels intentional, not like an afterthought. A separate stair section on the side gives a second exit point, which is a practical detail that pays off every time you're outside entertaining or moving furniture around.
The composite decking is the real long-term win here. No staining, no sealing, no splinters. It holds up against moisture and sun far better than traditional wood, and it still looks sharp years down the road. When homeowners ask us about material choices, this is exactly the kind of finished product we point to as a reason composite is worth the investment.
Good deck installation is about more than just laying boards. It's the details - how the stair stringers are framed, how the railing posts are anchored, how the skirting is cut and finished - that separate a deck that lasts from one that starts showing problems a few years in. This one was built to last.
